Round 7 – Match Report

Goals: Zander 3, McGee 2, Dom, Reis, Bate 1 Best: Dom, Dylan, Hoddy, Sean, Luke, James Bate
A stellar final quarter from Dylan Patcas and Dom Pound-Palmieri guided Fitzroy to just their second win in a month, overcoming a gallant Ashburton side by 12 points.
Dominating the match early Fitzroy looked set for an easy day out, until the home side rallied in the second and third terms to set up a thrilling finale. With the match in the balance the boys in blue and red lifted, and after a tense final ten minutes escaped with a two-goal win.
Newly appointed captain James Hodson revelled in his leadership position, controlling the midfield while feeding the ball forward time and time again. Linking up with big Zander Croft and James McGee up forward, Hoddy ensured he had the best possible start to his three-game captaincy and will aim to continue his flawless record next week.
Jordan Batten was back to his best providing plenty of spark up the left wing, while Finlay, Raph and Jason all added valuable contributions. Sean Dillane and Luke De Nittis both played their positions well, with newcomer Sean laying a number of important tackles deep into the last quarter to keep Fitzroy in the game.
James Bate popped up to slot his first of the season, his tackle on one the opposition's largest players typifying the boys courageous efforts throughout the match. Dylan Patcas also starred in the final term, dropping back into defence and taking a number of match-winning marks.
A gallant team effort and more importantly a return to the winners list, Fitzroy now continue their Ashburton double-header next week when they meet the 'Green' side.
Finally gaining a basic comprehension of tactical formations, the boys were thoroughly impressive in both the first and last quarters last weekend, displaying a number of superb passages of play while sticking to the team game plan. With just nine games to run in the home and away season, Fitzroy continue to develop as an impressive team unit.
