Fitzroy recorded their second twenty-goal victory in as many weeks last weekend, after defeating Bundoora by 127 points at Telfer Reserve.
Erasing the painful memories of the side's semi-final at Telfer last year, when the boys in blue and red failed to kick a goal, it was all Fitzroy from the outset as the ladder-leaders continued their dominating form from the week before. Kicking 18 consecutive goals, including eight in the third term, Fitzroy never looked threatened by the 2005 Green Division premiers, with Alexander Croft once again in stellar form.
Zander continued his record breaking start to the 2006 season with another double-figure haul, his lazy ten goals taking his season tally to 49 and ensuring the club's current captain would receive a call-up from the Oakleigh Chargers Development Squad.
James McGee was also at his best displaying his versatility with an inspiring two quarters on the ball before returning to his preferred position up front. Dom Pound-Palmieri, Justin Galligan and Dylan Patcas all shone in the midfield, while YJFL representative Michael Kruger dominated in the ruck.
Retreating to the forward line after copping a nasty hit in the third, Kruger showed his prowess as a key position player kicking three majors and making his presence felt. Receiving support from Blake Richardson, Chris Smith, Sean Dillane and Jordan Batten, who all ended up on the scoresheet, Fitzroy finished the game as it had started with a late flurry of goals including one after the final siren.
As the business end of the season approaches the boys from Fitzroy will now face their toughest challenge yet as they revisit fixtures against the competition's top sides including Camberwell, East Malvern, Warrandyte and Canterbury. And with season 2006 proving to be one of the most even in recent times, all but one of the sides remain in the hunt for the competition biggest prize.
