FITZROY Green 2 vs Camberwell 2 11 April 2010

The 2010 Season has started with a magnificent (but one-sided) win for Fitzroy’s Under 14 Green team. Before the opening bounce the coach Howard, welcomed four new players to the team of last year, Walt, Sam, Floyd and Tom, then it was off to play the game.

The gusty conditions made kicking difficult, Nick scored the first goal for the quarter and the year. This goal was followed by many more for the quarter, notably by James who kicked 4 goals. The windy conditions worsened with a downpour of rain, which sent many spectators scurrying for cover. The Roys continued to put the score on the board, keeping the opposition scoreless in the first quarter. Jesse was strong in attack getting the ball the players in the forward line.

The second quarter was much the same wintry conditions, making kicking very difficult. Again strong tackling by the roys kept the opposition scoreless. A strong player for the opposition was our own Noah who volunteered to play for the undermanned Sharks. The goal and point tally continued to add onto the Roys score, and the team went into the half time break with a very healthy lead.

The Roys keep attacking and adding to the score in the third quarter. If the ball did come down to the Sharks goal square, Charlie made sure it was quickly taken away and the ball sent to the Roys own goals. Elia got the tap outs hitting it down to his teammates. Attacking and running by Martin got the ball up field and a 40 metre kick by Martin resulted in yet another goal for the Roys. Darcy P attacking, passing, tackling and kicking added to the goal tally.

The Sharks kicked their first score for the third quarter, a point. The Roy’s then worked hard to get ball to Sam and Floyd in the forward line. The goals continued to add onto the scoreboard with the Sharks getting one more point for the quarter. The leading goal kicker for the day, James continued to add to his goal tally to finish with a total of 8 goals.

Well Done to Noah, who received the medal from Camberwell for the best opposition player.

Today it was the Roys who beat the Sharks, congratulations boys and coaching staff. See you next week for our first home game, at 1pm at the Brunswick Street oval.
