FITZROY 2 v St. DAMIANS GREENS 20th June 2010
After a wet and windy Sunday morning, by game time the weather was sunny and still, and the Roys were raring to go....... Today we celebrated the 50th games of three of the Roys; Connor, Isaac and James. After running through the banner it was time to knuckle down and start the game. The opening play was down the opposition's end, and it was St Damian's who scored the first goal. This was quickly followed by a goal to Isaac, and then another goal to the opposition. It was then the Roy's showed their great team play, finally Jesse kicked the Roys second goal. The teamwork continued with fantastic tackling by Gilbert, and then a beautiful mark in front of goal by Connor, this time only a point was the result. After much discussion between the goal umpire and the umpire, Elia was rewarded with the third goal for the Roys. Despite desperate tackling by Darcy H, St Damian's got their second goal. the Roys went into the first quarter break one goal in the lead. First minor score of the second quarter went to St Damian's, the Roy's went into action with Elia, Michael T and Darcy H defending the opposition goal with all their might. The opposition then added another point and a goal to the score. After a free kick was awarded to James, he booted the ball down the ground to Himi who goaled. Tom and Isaac seemed to be everywhere picking the ball up and making sure it was going in the direction of the Roy's goal. Then a goal to Noah, and a rushed point to the Roys. At the end of the first half the Roys were up by three points. After half time, Himi was given the job in ruck. Noah quickly added to the Roy's score with his second goal for the match. Josh then got the ball to James who kicked his first goal for the game. With Michael T strong in defence St. Damian's cold only manage to add points to their score. The Roy's continued to attack with a goal to Sam. Tom and Darcy H continued to defend strongly and Himi taking strong marks when the ball was in a dangerous position. Strong marking by the Roys was a high light of this quarter, and the Roys ended the third quarter in a very strong position. The final quarter saw the football going up and down the ground with the first goal going to Floyd, two points to St Damian's, two points to the Roys, a goal to Jesse (his third for the game), a point and a goal to St. Damian's. Then another goal to Jesse and a point to the Roys. St. Damian's finished strongly with the last two goals and a point, but it was the Roys who were victorious with a 19 point win. GO ROYS!!!!!!!!!
