FITZROY 2 v GREYTHORN GREENS 25th April 2010

The pre-match warm up was wet and dreary, after the minute's silence for Anzac Day, the rain stopped and a tough contest began.

Greythorn's first goal was quickly matched by a goal to Jesse. The first quarter went all Fitzroy's way with a goal to Sam , then a goal to Hudson, then a rushed point. Fitzroy were ahead after the first quarter of play. Strong work by Martin made sure the ball was kept away from the Greythorn goal square.

A thumping kick by Martin resulted in the first goal of the second quarter. Himi was fantastic in defense and Elia rucked hard and worked to get the ball down to the Roys. Unfortunately, the Roys could only add two more points for the quarter. Greythorn's lead at half time one straight goal.

The Roys didn't give up, Himi continued to protect the Greythorn goal with fantastic marking. A mark to Noah, which was passed to Issac resulted in one more goal to the Roys. At three quarter time the scoreboard showed the Roys were two goals down.

After Greythorn's first two goals of the final quarter, James answered this with a goal. Tom took a magnificent mark but was unfortunate not to score a major. While The Roys continued to play the ball but it appeared on this occasion as if we were not destined to recover the lead. Another goal to Greythorn spurred their forwards on. Fitzroy tried to answer but the result was point to Issac. Again another goal to Greythorn, with the resultant response by Fitzroy again a point - this time to Jesse. ...... The Roys finished the game 25 points down. They fought and defended hard, at times unrewarded by the vagaries of local football adjudication. Good effort boys.
