FITZROY 2 v PRESTON BULLANTS GREENS 6th June 2010
Another home game on a wintery day, which meant the ball bouncing everywhere, wet and slippery and very hard to pick up. Elia was everywhere, marking and attacking the ball at every opportunity. The first score of the quarter went to Aleks (our special guest from the Blue team), a fantastic soccer kick off the ground. this was closely followed by a free kick to Sam who got the ball over to Floyd who then goaled. Noah worked hard in defence to tap the Bullants certain goal through for a point. Tom and Hudson defended well in the slippery conditions. The game was very scrambly, the Roys got the ball down to their end where Sam took a great mark, which he then converted into the third goal for the Roys. The siren sounded for the end of the first quarter, the Roys were in the lead. The rain started during the first quarter break, and it continued as the second quarter commenced. The Bullants loved the wet, they added two goals to their score. Tom continued to chase the ball, and then Mick P was awarded a free kick and a 15 metre penalty and another goal for the Roys. The rain had stopped, luckily the slippery conditions did not hamper Himi and Connor from taking great marks. The Bullants were attacking the ball harder, fortunately for the Roys the Bullants were unable to get the BIG scores on the board. At the half time break, the Roys were four straight goals, and only four points down. At the half time break Coach Howard said ".... we have to run, run, run, ....", and the third quarter saw the Roys continue to fight hard for the ball. Free kicks went to Issac and Darcy H, then a magnificent goal to Martin, his first for the day and the Roy's fifth. Unfortunately, the Bullants quickly responded with two more goals. Issac, Floyd, Hudson and Tom continued to mark strongly, and Himi protected the Bullants goal with all his might, the siren sounded for the end of the third quarter. The Roys were still in the game, because of their straight kicking.
In the fourth quarter, it was unfortunately all the Bullants. The game was played with the same intensity but the team from Preston started to gain an ascendency across the center line - making it hard for the Fitzroy back line to move the ball into our forward line. Unfortunately when the ball did go into the Royrs forward the accuracy of the previous 3 quarters had disappeared and the Roys could only add two more points to their score. The Roys didn't give up, with strong work by Himi, good marks to Finn and Michael T. Jesse and Lewis working hard in defense, and Tom throwing himself at the ball. But it wasn't going to be the Roy's day, the Roys going down by 27 points.
